Some of the Heron Tennis Centre's most promising young players have finished their busy Summer schedule of competing around the South-West and in Germany. Now their Winter coaching, practice and fitness programme begins as they return to school.
An increasingly important part of their programme is their fitness and strength and conditioning work. Their weekly sessions involve strength, conditioning and speed work with Charmaine Heard, Heron's S & C coach. some of the players also do yoga, go to their school gyms and run up Newquay harbour's 100 steps.
The players were recently given something a bit different when they were had a boxing lesson by Bob Foreman from Oasis Kickboxing. Bob has over 42 years of boxing and kickboxing experience and is one of the longest serving and most skilled coaches in the region. For most of our players, the session was their first taste of learning the basics of boxing technique and boxing-specific fitness drills.
If you interested in kickboxing and boxing sessions, Bob Foreman offers lessons for juniors and adults and runs both group and individual sessions. Sessions are held at the Women's Institute on Crantock Street. Bookings at private venues are also possible. For more information and to book a place, please contact Bob on 07968006333.
