The Heron Tennis Centre's 9th Annual Triangular Tennis Camp & Trophy
Last week saw Heron welcome teams from Hurlingham Tennis Club (London) and Set Point Tennis Academy (Surrey) for it's annual Triangular Training Camp & Trophy.
There were 24 players from Hurlingham, Set Point and Heron who came together for tennis coaching and drills sessions, practice matches, plus fitness and conditioning on the beach and around the boating lake. Off court, the players aged between 11 and 18 had fun social times when they learned to surf, played rounders and football, and had a BBQ on the beach before the main event on the final day: the Triangular Trophy.
After singles and doubles matches between the 3 teams, the scores were the closest they have ever been in the previous 8 years of running the event! Heron's team, who welcomed back Toby who had been away from the game due to illness, ran out joint winners with Hurlingham who both had 107 games. Set Point amazingly only finished with 1 less game after 3 1/2 hours of competition!
The trophy matches were followed by some Pro-Am social doubles games when visiting parents and our host parents got to play with some of the youngsters and the coaches.
The week concluded with homemade curry al fresco whilst the presentations took place.
Awards were presented to:
Best wetsuit - Danny (Set Point), whose hire wetsuit looked like he had been attacked by a shark!
Most Improved Surfer - Alexandra (Hurlingham).
Winner of the Gordon Birt Award (world renowned coach and inspiration behind the Triangular week) - Charlotte (Hurlingham) for her attitude, character, love of the game and effort.
Most Improved Player - Joe (Set Point).
Triangular Trophy joint winners - Heron (Toby, Ted, Loki, Annie, Max, Thom and Jess) and Hurlingham (Harry, Charlotte, Lottie, Alexandra, Tom, Zac, Aimee and Ethan).
We would like to say a special thank you to the host families! Thanks also to all the coaches who organised the week (Jon, Matt, Gordon, Tom and Steve A), to Leigh for organising the BBQ on the beach, and to Simon and Sarah and their Courtside Café team for their efforts and care.
